Practical System Administration

System administration is a new profession that is only now being recognised as such. Modern society is intimately dependent on computers and System Administrators, as the group charged with building and maintaining the most important components, have a central role that few have recognised so far.

System administrators have wide ranging responsibilities. A sysadmin must be able to engage in the proactive work of network design and managment just as easily as the reactive work of fire fighting. System administration is about much more than just IT Support.

An important component of system administration are the professional associations that have formed in various countries.
