Over the last 16 years Robert Brockway has evolved a well rounded and internally consistent approach to system administration. Much of this comes from Industry best practice and professional knowledge well known among fellow sysadmins, but some aspects of his approach are unique.

Despite the name, parts of this wiki will get quite theoretical. The term practical in the title refers to the application of this knowledge. Theory and practice are intimately connected in system administration.

The focus of this wiki is on Unix and Unix-like systems however much of the material should be applicable to any operating system.
