Personality test
From Sysadmin
(Redirected from Personality)
A personality test for a server is a test of the uniqueness of the server's configuration.
If the servers are generally installed by hand (more common at a smaller installation) and have heavily customised configuration then individual server names may be more appropriate. If the installation involves a large number of servers built automatically from a template then serialised hostnames would make more sense. This can be thought of as a personality test. The server's individual configuration is it's personality and the more of an individual it is the more sense it makes to give it an individual host name, although this does not necessarily imply that a themed hostname needs to be used.
