Backup server

A backup server is a server responsible for fetching backups from other hosts over the network.

In smaller organisation a backup server is probably a fileserver that is providing another service. In a larger organisation the backup server is probably a dedicated host.

It is important that the backup server is at least as secure as any host that it is backing up. This an application of the principal of security domains.
